Confidentiality & Data Protection
Confidentiality is a vital part of the therapeutic relationship and something I hold with the utmost care. What you share with me in our sessions is treated with respect, compassion, and sensitivity.
Here’s how I handle your information and maintain confidentiality:
Confidentiality: Everything you bring to therapy is confidential. The only exceptions are:
If I believe you or someone else is at serious risk of harm.
If I am required by law to disclose information (for example, in cases of terrorism, drug trafficking, or a court order).
During professional supervision (as part of ethical practice), where your identity remains protected.
Record Keeping: I keep brief, anonymised notes of our sessions, which are stored securely and separately from your personal details. These are retained for a limited period, in line with professional guidelines, and then securely destroyed.
Communication: I treat all communication between us as private. Emails, texts, or messages are kept to a minimum and are primarily used for scheduling or practical matters.
Online Sessions
I offer both in-person and online therapy. If you choose online sessions, we’ll use a secure, encrypted video platform to protect your privacy. You’ll need a quiet, private space where you feel safe and won’t be interrupted. If you're ever unsure about using technology or need support setting things up, I’ll be happy to help.
Cancellations & Missed Sessions
If you need to cancel or reschedule a session, I ask for at least 24 hours’ notice. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice may be charged in full, except in cases of emergency or exceptional circumstances. I’ll always try to be fair and understanding if something unexpected comes up.
Consent & Working Together
Before we begin therapy, we’ll go over a short agreement that outlines how we’ll work together, including confidentiality, session structure, and practical matters. This is to ensure clarity and mutual understanding, and you’re always welcome to ask questions or revisit anything at any time.
